2012 Menetou-Salon: Philippe Gilbert

Philippe Gilbert with a bunch of his Pinot Noir

On the way back from Sancerre we dropped into see Philippe Gilbert in Menetou-Salon – the vigneron not the new World Road Race Champion! Philippe: "We started picking last Thursday (27th September) with the Pinot Noir, which has been coming in at between 13% and 13.8% potential. Then on Monday we started on the Sauvignon, which is around 13.5% with 5.5 acidity. Overall yields are about 35 hl/ha. There is little juice in the grapes, which is reducing the yield. We pick everything by hand."

Cases of Pinot Noir awaiting sorting (above and below)
