Petit Pressigny tasting: Monday 31st March 2014 – Domaine Perrin à Ladoix Serrigny

Xavier Fortin in his cellar: August 2011

BOURGOGNE VIELLES VIGNES ROUGES 2008

Mr Perrin is an organic winemaker and all his wines are fine elegant and very tasty.

LADOIX BLANC 1ER CRU SUR LES VRIS 2011 – 18 € TTC la bouteille
100 % Chardonnay – all lot of body with a touch of acidity no oack flavour just the fruit and the terroir. It will be perfect with scallops and all your fish with a butter sauce.

BOURGOGNE VIELLES VIGNES ROUGES 2008 – 12 € TTC la bouteille

Light but this 100 % pinot noir as got very soft tanin the mouth is full of little red fruit. Will be fine with all your next summer BBQ.

HAUTES COTES DE NUITS 2007 – 14 € TTC la bouteille

100 % pinot noir – Very light but with a lot of flavor where leather and cherries are dominated. Fine with all your poultry or white meat.

LADOIX LES –LES BRIQUOTTES ROUGE 2009 – 18 € TTC la bouteille

Superb balance for this 100 % pinot noir. Body acidity tanin every think is just right. The flavour is rich and full of red fruit jam. Drink it with roast red meat or forget it for a while in your cellar.

The best terroir of the north of the Cote de Beaune. Still 100 % pinot noir but more concentration more body more flavour. You can drink it now with beef stew or game but if you keep it 4 or 5 years it will be perfect with white meat and truffle.

Epeigné-les-Bois: Nouveau Conseil – Christian Percevault elu Maire

The new Conseil d'Epeigné-les-Bois

Christian Percevault: Maire d'Epeigné-les-Bois

Le nouveau Conseil Municipal: Christian Percevault – the new Maire, Michel Mergot (the previous Maire) – 1er Maire Adjoint, Pierre Tourlier – 2ème Maire Adjoint et Philippe Gallet – 3ème Maire Adjoint

Following their election last Sunday (23rd March 2014) on the first round of voting the new Conseil (11 members) met for the first time this morning in the Mairie d'Epeigné-les-Bois.

The meeting started with the election of the new Maire and the three Maires Adjoints – the maximum allowed for a small commune like Epeigné (424 inhabitants - 2009).

Christian Percevault signs in as Maire d'Epeigné-les-Bois

There were two candidates:Christian Percevault and Philippe Gallet. Christian Percevault was elected on the first ballot with 8 votes to 3 for Philippe Gallet.

Secret ballot as votes are placed in a fireman's helmet

Philippe misunderstands the instructions
thinking he has to put his head in the helmet not his vote!

The three Maire-Adjoints were unopposed with Michel Mergot and Pierre Tourlier receiving 11 votes each, while Philippe Gallet had 10 votes with one abstention. Although there are four women on the new Conseil sadly none of them stood for one of these posts.

Michel Mergot: 1st Deputy Mayor

Pierre Tourlier: 2nd Deputy Mayor

Philippe Gallet: 3rd Deputy Mayor

Meeting Charles-Eric Pasquiers of Domaine FL@Millésime Bio

Charles-Eric Pasquiers, general manager, Domaine FL

With his commercial assistant

Although by chance I bumped into Charles-Eric Pasquiers  in the lift of the Hotel Oceania in the centre of Montpellier where we were both staying latish on Monday, my first proper meeting with him and chance to catch up on the FL wines was on the Tuesday afternoon at Millesimé Bio.

Pasquiers has a considerable CV having worked for Bernard Magrez, Château Figeac and Brown Brothers in Australia before arriving at Domaine FL in December 2011. Pasquiers explained that FL are analysing their parcels and deciding which are suitable for the domaine wine and which will for the second wine.

I started with the 2012 Le Chenin La Tour de FL, Anjou Blanc - the second wine. Clean with attractive concentration and a characteristic touch of bitterness in the finish. It sells for between 5-6€. Next was the well-balanced and stylish 2010 Les Bergères Anjou Blanc. This domaine wine sells for around €10.

Pasquiers explained that FL currently has 30 ha with 15 hectares in Savennieres and the intention is to increase that to 25 hectares in the future. Overall FL will potentially come up to 50 ha.The vineyards for Anjou Blanc will be reduced to 12 hectares and they will focus on Cabernet Franc.

Of the four Savennières I tasted I particularly liked the precise and long 2009 Croix Picot, while the two 2012s Croix Picot and Chamboreau are still obviously young but looking promising. For the 2013 Chamboreau harvest they went through the vineyard three times. I also tried the Anjou Rouge - 100% Cabernet Franc and liked the soft and attractively textured 2012 Le Cochet.

We ended by talking a little about the Quarts de Chaume. Along with most other producers FL made none in 2012 and very little in 2013 - four hectolitres.
Pasquiers expressed surprise that cryoselection was considered in the Quarts de Chaume as he said it was no longer used in Bordeaux. (I'm not entirely sure that cryoselection isn't still used in some Sauternes domaines especially in difficult vintages.)

The perplexing mystery of the Loire's disappearing vineyards ...

Map of the Loire Valley Wines@ProWein 2014
without ACs Bourgueil, Montlouis and Fiefs Vendéens

Sharp eyed observers would have noticed something strange and mysterious about the map used by InterLoire at the 2014 edition of Prowein in Dusseldorf (23rd-25th March) to show the Loire Valley wines – no sign of Bourgueil, Montlouis nor Fiefs Vendéens nor a number of appellations like Cheverny etc.!

Have these décrets been cancelled, have they disappeared in a natural disaster or have the now famous hens of Ingrandes-de-Touraine multiplied and devoured appellation Bourgueil? In the case of the disappearance, as far as  Bourgueil is concerned, must be very recent as the appellation was in rude health as recently as the 15th March 2014 for their annual Fête des Vins à Tours. Furthermore I saw Jacky Blot on his Domaine de la Butte stand and he said nothing about the disappearance of Montlouis...

Philippe Boucard@Bourgueil invades Tours 15.3.14

A quick Google search draws a complete blank! However, an email from Philippe Boucard (Domaine Lamé Delisle Boucard) sent yesterday provides a clue:

Quand penses tu ?*

(* Bourgueil, Montlouis and the Fiefs Vendéens have opted out of InterLoire -Jim.)

Unfortunately difficult to see but detail showing
absence of Bourgueil and Montlouis
