2011 Les Têtes, Côte Roannaise, Domaine Désormière

2011 Les Têtes, Côte Roannaise, Domaine Désormière

On Friday I received a promised selection of wines from the Côte Roannaise and the Côtes de Forez. I had been invited there on a press trip later this month but unfortunately the dates didn't work. The 2011 Les Têtes from Domaine Désormière (Côte Roannaise – always 100% Gamay) comes from old vines and was first made in 2000. This is the top cuvée from this 15ha family estate based in Renaison and is only made in good years. It has attractive, soft red-fruited texture with some ripe tannic structure. Enjoyable to drink now – it went well with a guinea fowl casserole – it can also be easily kept for three to four years. At 5.35€ from the domaine it offers excellent value.

Off to Sancerre, Pouilly etc. today to see vintage – will report back.
