2014 Malvoisie, Vin de France

The 2014 Malvoisie from Antoine and Vincent Dupuy was my most interesting wine from VitiLoire. Delicately sweet (55 g of residual sugar) and wonderfully balanced with enough acidity to stop it being cloying. Malvoisie is the Loire name used for sweet wines made from Pinot Gris. This is only made in certain years when autumn conditions are favourable. None was made in 2012, a little in 2013 and rather more in 2014.
After an initial sweep through the vineyard (1.5ha) to get rid of any rotten or unwanted grapes, this was picked in one go.

We opened a bottle around 10pm last night after the annual general meeting of our house group had finished and it suited the occasion perfectly.
