Epeigné-les-Bois: 2016 répas des gens avec un esprit jeune (Part 1 – le Répas)

Répas des ainés 1er octobre 2016

The mayor of Epeigné-les-Bois – Christian Percevault – addresses
the commune's guests at the start of the meal
(above and below)

Epeigné-les-Bois holds its annual Répas des Ainés on the first Saturday in October. You have to be 65 or over to qualify for an invitation to this lunch.  Today 70 sat down to a five course meal.

Menu – duck terrine, pike quenelles in a shellfish sauce,
pork cheeks, salad and cheese,
Paris Brest (replaced the Millefeuille), coffee and liqueurs

 2015 Sauvignon, Appellation Touraine Protégé,
Jean-Claude Legrand

 2015 Côt, Appellation Touraine Protégé,
Jean-Claude Legrand

The two still wines – a Sauvignon and a Côt both from 2015 – were supplied by Jean-Claude Legrand in Saint-Georges-sur-Cher. The Sauvignon and the Côt were easy drinking and typical of their appellation. This will be the last year that the wines will come from Legrand as the domaine has been recently bought by Grands Chais de France. Legrand sold because his children are not interested in taking over.
Two sparkling wines served with the dessert:

White: Dans ma Bulle, Méthode Traditionnelle, Vin de France,
Garanne, Saint-Georges-sur-Cher

Rosé: Fines Bulles de Touraine,Méthode Traditionnelle,
AC Touraine, Jean-Claude Legrand

Epeigné-les-Bois: for whom the bell tolls ....

The bell ready to be hoisted up

 Epeigné's Maire Christian Percevault manoeuvres
the bell into place so that it can be raised
up to the roof of the church

 Almost up...

Today an important part of Epeigné's patrimoine returned to the village. The church bell, that had been sent to Germany to be repaired and renovated, returned and was hoisted up to the top of the church, so that it can be reinstalled. Although the bell only dates from the 19th century, its striking – twice on the hour – is a feature of the village.

The bell starts its journey upwards

 On its way .....
 Upwards....

 Nearing the top

Now up at roof level and time to manoeuvre

Work on the first section of the roof is now nearly complete

Le nouveau Conseil Municipal: Christian Percevault – the new Maire, Michel Mergot (the previous Maire) – 1er Maire Adjoint, Pierre Tourlier – 2ème Maire Adjoint et Philippe Gallet – 3ème Maire Adjoint

Following their election last Sunday (23rd March 2014) on the first round of voting the new Conseil (11 members) met for the first time this morning in the Mairie d'Epeigné-les-Bois.

The meeting started with the election of the new Maire and the three Maires Adjoints – the maximum allowed for a small commune like Epeigné (424 inhabitants - 2009).

Christian Percevault signs in as Maire d'Epeigné-les-Bois

There were two candidates:Christian Percevault and Philippe Gallet. Christian Percevault was elected on the first ballot with 8 votes to 3 for Philippe Gallet.

Secret ballot as votes are placed in a fireman's helmet

Philippe misunderstands the instructions
thinking he has to put his head in the helmet not his vote!

The three Maire-Adjoints were unopposed with Michel Mergot and Pierre Tourlier receiving 11 votes each, while Philippe Gallet had 10 votes with one abstention. Although there are four women on the new Conseil sadly none of them stood for one of these posts.

Michel Mergot: 1st Deputy Mayor

Pierre Tourlier: 2nd Deputy Mayor

Philippe Gallet: 3rd Deputy Mayor
