Domaine Bernard Reverdy: Sancerre 2007

10 September 2009

2007 Sancerre, Bernard Reverdy

This 12-hectare estate in the hamlet of Chaudoux in the commune of Verdigny was established by Bernard Reverdy. It is now run by his son Noël and Claudine his wife. 80% of their vineyard is planted with Sauvignon Blanc. Noël is also a collector of corkscrews. Reverdy is a very popular name in Verdigny – there are 25 listed here in the Frence telephone directory with a further 10 in the neighbouring commune of Sury-en-Vaux.

Their 2007 Sancerre is very typical of the vintage – very clean, minerally and precise with a hint of grassiness. It now has attractive palate weight and may have fattened up with time in bottle. A good aperitif as well as being good with shellfish, this worked well with a mackerel paté.

Sample kindly supplied by Goedhuis & Co (020-7793 7900). £119 per 12 DP ex VAT - or £11.41 inc VAT per bottle.
