Gosset trip: dinner with Jean-Pierre Cointreau and Reims Cathedral

Reims Cathedral by night (above and below)

Last evening we had a very enjoyable and excellent dinner at Le Millénaire in the centre of Reims with Jean-Pierre Cointreau. A wide ranging conversation covered a comparison of Vinexpo and Prowein including Prowein's origins in a small room – a show initially organised by SOPEXA. We also covered Cigar Cognacs, links between perfumes and wines/spirits, Gosset's tradition of longer aging for their Champagnes and how this varies from country to country. Italians, for example, like their Champagne very young I guess rather like ex-Prime Minister Silvio Bertolusconi's preference for young women...

The highlight of the meal was a stunning cold asparagus soup with a hazelnut garnish. Afterwards we meandered back to our hotel – Hotel de la Paix – by way of the cathedral.
