Oddbins: further store closures

Have been getting reports today of additional stores being closed. Harpers wine & spirit is now reporting that 55 are to be put on the market – the 39 closed last month plus an additional 16, which I gather includes Sevenoaks and a Westminister branch on Horseferry Road.

Details here on the Christie & Co site. 'Best and final offers are to be submitted no later than 5.00pm on Monday 2 May 2011.' As the shops are all closed, there will be no opportunities for the insides of the shops to be viewed.

You can see the list of 55 on a spreadsheet here:

...although, oddly, this list doesn't appear to include the Westminster and Sevenoaks closures mentioned by posters on here earlier today.

In any case, presumably these are the branches that the potential buyers have no interest in? And if so, does this mean that the remaining stores (about 70?) are still hoping to be sold as a going concern?

The list of 55 stores to be sold includes 16 that were closed a long time ago, and with the loss of Westminster and Sevenoaks this still leaves Oddbins with about 87 branches.

Lets call me "11:28" for tis me again from the last thread.

In addition to the Westminster and Sevenoaks, I found on Google Blogs the same procedure for the massive Street Lane branch in Leeds, which was doing wonderful business not so long ago (when there was stock to sell)

86 that would be Street lane is gone as well... 636 westminster

@toasted wine: I think the "going concern" stores now number about 73

toasted wine. You may well be right, although Lee Manning quoted 89 this morning.

Spoke to Oddbins HR today - even they have no idea why Leeds Street Lane, Sevenoaks & Westminster Horseferry Road branches were sold. More mass redundancies in Head Office yesterday, I hear.
