Baudry-Dutour – three Chinons

2011 Clos des Marronniers, Chinon, Baudry-Dutour

Here are three Chinons from Baudry-Dutour that I was sent to try – two from the 2011 vintage and one vat sample from 2012. Of the 2011s the rich and velvety Clos des Marronniers is the most impressive – a delicious mouthful, while the Perrières is pleasant enough but lacks the concentration and excitement you might expect from a VV. Overall more in the style of the straight Perrières, although perhaps in time in will take on more weight. The Clos des Marronniers is a 10-hectare plot within the 60-hectare Domaine de la Roncée in the commune of Panzoult.

While not yet bottled the deeply coloured 2012 Morandière looks promising with soft ripe, easy drinking fruit with light tannins in the finish.
