Vineyards of Pouilly-Fumé@Saint-Andelain Three Pouilly-Fumés to taste from Bouchié-Chatellier, who are based in Saint-Andelain and have 22 ha of vines – all Sauvignon Blanc except for 35 ares of Chasselas.
The three wines:2007 Argile à SilexDecidedly light style Pouilly-Fumé: pale lemon colour, lightly grassy and citric. Sold in Holland for the equivalent of £10.24 (tax and duty removed). On this showing this is poor value.
2007 La Renaudière This is much more the business: a little deeper in colour, more aromatic – some mousseron and yellow plum – weight. This is a bigger and more interesting wine than Argile à Silex. Available from Noel Young Wines@£12.17 (tax and duty removed).
2006 Premier MillesiméMuch the most interesting of the three wines (admittedly the richer 2006 vintage not 2007) with richer, softer fruit, spice and complexity. This is a Pouilly-Fumé to drink with food and should age well over the next four or five years. Available from MyWine@£14.70 (tax and duty removed). Probably worth the extra, although I haven't tasted the 2006 La Renaudière.
