Three samples from Bouchié-Chatellier: Pouilly-Fumé

Vineyards of Pouilly-Fumé@Saint-Andelain

Three Pouilly-Fumés to taste from Bouchié-Chatellier, who are based in Saint-Andelain and have 22 ha of vines – all Sauvignon Blanc except for 35 ares of Chasselas.

The three wines:

2007 Argile à Silex
Decidedly light style Pouilly-Fumé: pale lemon colour, lightly grassy and citric. Sold in Holland for the equivalent of £10.24 (tax and duty removed). On this showing this is poor value.

2007 La Renaudière
This is much more the business: a little deeper in colour, more aromatic – some mousseron and yellow plum – weight. This is a bigger and more interesting wine than Argile à Silex. Available from Noel Young Wines@£12.17 (tax and duty removed).

2006 Premier Millesimé
Much the most interesting of the three wines (admittedly the richer 2006 vintage not 2007) with richer, softer fruit, spice and complexity. This is a Pouilly-Fumé to drink with food and should age well over the next four or five years. Available from MyWine@£14.70 (tax and duty removed). Probably worth the extra, although I haven't tasted the 2006 La Renaudière.
