Sunday lunch@La Lionnière, Mareuil-sur-Cher

5 April 2009
Had a very enjoyable and relaxed lunch at the Ferme Auberge La Lionnière, Mareuil-sur-Cher. The price of the menu depends upon the main course – five of us had chevreau (24€) and one had coq au Sauvignon (22€). Everyone gets a welcome glass of Kir (base of Sauvignon), two entrées – salad with shaved goats’ cheese and a choice of a terrine or a mushroom tart, then cheese and dessert – choice of chocolate or raspberry sponge.

The auberge has a very attractive garden – particularly fine with the spring flowers

Garden and the restaurant

We drank two wines from Mareuil-sur-Cher: the refreshing but quite weighty 2007 Pineau d’Aunis Rosé AC Touraine from Clos Roche Blanche and an impressive 2006 Cabernet Franc AC Touraine with good concentration of black fruits from Vignoble du Haut-Bagneux owned by Jean-Christophe Mandard.

One of the satisfied customers

All in all, excellent value for currently cash-strapped Brits!

Some of the goats that we hadn't eaten..........

Cabine and vines

Following a week or so of warmer weather, the buds on the vines around here are beginning to swell, although they are still tight.
