5.5% – Cheaper French restaurant meals from 1st July

The French government announced on Tuesday 28th April that the reduction of TVA (vat) on restaurant meals from the current 19.6% to 5.5% will start on 1st July. See Euractiv here and La Nouvelle République.

Despite speculation that some restaurateurs will not be passing on the reduction to their customers, I think there will surely be some reductions, whether it will be the full TVA cut is another matter. There is a French government site that may keep us informed about what is likely to happen.
