A Baltimore-area oenophile has resigned as a critic for the influential Wine Advocate in the wake of allegations that a representative sought payments from vineyards for him to visit them.

Once again it is the email sent by Pancho Campo from Tuscany on 4th June 2011 that is the most damaging. Parker is quoted saying that Miller is "completely innocent" but that an investigation has been launched and he is taking a hard look at Campo. 

The Baltimore Sun has a weekday circulation of just over 200,000 copies.

Robert Parker's earlier comments do not appear in this second version of the story. Instead there are more comments from Jay Miller as well as comments I made when the reporter, Jill Rosen, phoned me yesterday afternoon. Miller is quoted as saying that he doesn't know if Campo attempted to bribe any wineries. "That's the 64,000 dollar question," he says. "But in the end, only he knows."
