2014 Merci la Vie, Bourgueil, L'Oubliée, Xavier Courant

Xavier Courant names all his different cuvées of Bourgueil after French films. Merci la Vie is a 1991 film written and directed by Bertrand Blier.

Merci la Vie is Xavier's cuvée printemps, so is bottled early for easy spring and summer drinking. The 2014 is still youthfully purple and with plenty of attractive softly textured, spicy black fruits with gentle acidity in the finish. Enjoyable now but in another six months it will be even more delicious.

Available in the UK from H2Vin for £14.25 a bottle.
