2008 Les Griottes Pouilly-Fumé, Jean-Pierre Bailly

Jean-Pierre Bailly's 2008 Les Griottes (Majestic Wine £11.99 or buy two bottles for £9.99 each) is certainly better than his 2006 I tasted not long ago. To be fair Majestic had already moved on to the 2008, so the 2006 was old stock even so the 2006 ought to have been better than it was. The 2008 is riper, more aromatic and more expressive with crunchy gooseberry fruit. It is still a little sharp in the finish but without the greenness that characterised the 2006. I still think, however, that there are a number of Touraine Sauvignons that are at least as good and offer considerably better value.
