Macedonia – photos from day one – visit to Roman Stobi

Map of the Roman city of Stobi – 30% excavated to date

Visit to the ancient city of Stobi
In the morning we had a very interesting visit to the remains of the ancient Roman city of Stobi. The highlight were the mosaics that are uncovered to view in the summer, while covered during the winter. The city was founded in the first century AD and the remnants covered during both pagan and Christian eras. The city was abandoned in the sixth century following an earthquake and attacks from invaders.

Lovely delicate mosaics. I've never heard of this place, so thanks for introducing me.

Thanks Susan. Sorry for delay in posting your comment but BT in its 'wisdom' put it in the junk folder!
