First UK Lebanese tasting: 4th November 2010

Elie Maamari: export manager Château Ksara

Wines of Lebanon held their first ever UK generic tasting in London today. It featuring 11 wineries.

Elie Maamari less serious after mentioning John Salvi MW and his fondness for gambas

Habib Karam: Karam Winery

Seeking a UK distributor, Karam Winery has an attractive range of reds. I particularly liked the the rich and spicy 2009 Syrah De Nicolas and the 2007 Corpus Christi. Habib has a lively sense of humour insisting that Karam's 2006 St John (blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah) is not a saint as it is named after his son, who apparently took his father's car and wrecked it.
.

Ralph Hochar: Château Musar

Of the three reds from Musar on show the elegant and spicy 2003 Château Musar stood out. Quite bricky in colour it still has good length and power. It wa sclosely followed by the 2003 Hochar Père et Fils with its dominant sweet, ripe fruit.
