Château Montreuil-Bellay: various views

More sorting of photos – a long job and probably without end! Here are a selection of Château Montreuil-Bellay taken in early April 2007. April that year was hot and sunny. Unfortunately the weather went downhill after that!

The very attractive château, which was originally a fortress built by Foulques Nerra in the 12th century stands above the River Thouet that flows into the Loire just to the west of Saint-Hilaire-Saint-Florent, home to several Saumur sparkling wine houses: Ackerman-Laurance, Bouvet-Ladubay, Langlois-Chateau and Veuve-Amiot.
