2010 in Sancerre (continued): Florian Mollet

Florian Mollet operating the fork lift

Sadly the promised improvement in the weather yesterday didn't materialise and it was another miserable wet day. On our way to Pouilly we dropped in to see Flrian Mollet in Saint-Satur. He was his usual ebullient self despite the weather. He picks almost all of his 19 hectares by hand  (95%) and picks about a hectare a day. Having started eight days ago he still has a considerable amount to pick. However, as his vines are all grassed over Florian was confident that they would continue to resist the less than favourable weather.

We shot off in his 4x4 to have a look at his vines in Thauvenay, which did largely seem to be holding up well. Once picked Florian keeps everything chilled and doesn't start his fermentations until after the vendange is complete, when he can give them his full attention.
