In marked contrast to the foul conditions when we arrived in Plodiv, the day we left (Sunday 25th) was glorious with warm bright sunshine and clear blue skies. Although more provincial than Sofia, Plodiv is well worth a visit and will be the European Capital of Culture in 2019. It is also one of the oldest cities in the world.
