This is a brilliant idea – you take your picnic along to a participating producer and they provide wine to accompany your goodies. The only problem is that the Vignerons Indépendants only do this once a year. This year I will be in Scotalnd over the weekend of 23rd-25th May.

Jean. It is great fun. Unfortunately will be in Scotland that weekend, so no picnic for me this year.

Hi Jim,

Together with four friends we went along to the pique-nique at the Domaine de la Marinière, at Panzoult, near Chinon. We had a wonderful time, beginning with a vineyard tour by Boris Desbourdes complete with wine, pate, goat's cheese and bread part way round.

On our return to the house we were settled on long tables for our pique-nique. We were served aperitif, white wine, reds from 2014, 2013, 2012, and 2004. To finish us off out came the eau de vie and some of Madame's delicious flan.

We were then treated to a tour of the extensive cave system dating back to the 5th century from which the stone for sarcophagi were cut, and shown a meadow rich in beautiful orchids.

Overall a fantastic event with very hospitable hosts. Of course we showed our appreciation by buying a few cases of wine, but there wasn't any kind of hard sell.

Thank you so much for publicising the event. You can be sure we shall be looking out for the next one
