Central Vineyards Pinot Noir: record number of samples

Pinot Noir, Sancerre September 2007

Off to Sancerre on Thursday to research on article on Pinot Noir in the Central Vineyards. The research will include a major tasting of PNs, which has been kindly organised by Benoît Roumet, the director of the Bureau du Centre. It looks like I will be quite well occupied on the Friday as producers in the various appellations have sent in 166 different Pinot Noirs, which will be tasted blind. Benoît tells me that this is a record, so I’m very grateful to all those producers who have sent in wines.

It will be good to chart the level of progress that has been made with the reds here over the last 10-15 years. Certainly I’m pretty sure that even five years ago there wouldn’t have been so many samples sent in.

Thanks Jan-Tore. I'm looking forward to the tasting. Unfortunately the main results will have to wait until the article is published.
