Building@Tapada das Necessidades
Curiously the Tapada das Necessidades came up in conversation over dinner last night only for me to stumble upon it today while out walking. A second consecutive day of sunshine in Lisbon persuaded me that a lengthy walk would be more enjoyable than going to the local gym – very good though the Ginásio Clube Português is, it was the sun that won out after days of rain!
I first read about this park some five or six years ago and tried to find it but failing to take a map with me I missed it. Tapada das Necessidadesis a rather abondoned park not far at its nothern end from Campo d'Ourique and close to the Cemitéiro dos Prazeres. Apparently a brief visit here by Edouard Manet in 1859 inspired his 'Le déjeuner sur l'herbe' painting.
The northern entrance to the park is on the Rua do Borja, which I reached by walking down the Rua Patrocínio past the now sadly closed Tasquinha d'Adelaide restaurant.

Although it is peaceful in the park, there is a constant background
roar from traffic on the April 25th Bridge across the Tagus
Group in the lower part of the park
