Tour of the Western Isles: Harris and Lewis

Stormy late afternoon light on West Loch Tarbert

It seems rather irrelevant to be posting photos from the Outer Hebrides given what has been happening in London. Terrifying accounts of spreading violence, looting and destruction seem both particularly unreal yet all too vivid from a distance. What will happen tonight – will the police manage to keep control or will the rioting spread?

Perhaps it is a case that the gangland culture in the back streets of parts of London, which too regularly claims the lives of teenages and people in their early twenties, has emerged out of the shadows onto London's high streets and spread to other cities.
