Two samples from Corney & Barrow: Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil and Pouilly-Fumé

The first is the 2008 Les Chaumiennes Pouilly-Fumé, André et Edmond Figeat (£13.49). Pleasant enough Pouilly-Fumé but rather two dimensional and lacking complexity. Important not to serve this too cold. Sadly all too representative of this AC – you deserve greater excitement for £13.49.

2007 Les Graviers Domaine du Bourg Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil, Frédéric Mabileau. (£11.99) I think this is an alternative label for Les Rouillères.* Certainly a good effort in a difficult vintage – easy drinking, soft fruit, slightly edgy in the finish. Frédéric used a short cuvaison in 2007 in order to extract fruit and not very much tannin. I think I would drink this up over the next year. Corney & Barrow will be shipping the 2008 soon.

* I'm told that my guess is wrong and that Les Graviers is a separate cuvée and comes from the vineyards belonging to Jean-Paul, Frédéric's father. Apologies for any confusion.
