2009 Les Rouillères, Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil, Frédéric Mabileau

2009 Les Rouillères, Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil, Frédéric Mabileau

Frédéric kindly brought over a few samples of the recently bottled 2009 Les Rouillères when he came over for the tasting on Tuesday, so I tried one last night. This helps to confirm that 2009 Cabernet Francs from the Loire will be (or ought to be very attractive) with plenty of ripe, soft fruit – black fruits in this case. Frédéric's 2009 Les Rouillères is very attractive and easy to drink – a typical Saint-Nicolas from a good vintage, although it has more concentration than 2008 and 2007.

Les Rouillères makes up 80% of Frédéric's production and comes from vines planted on sand and gravel. It will keep a few years but is probabaly best enjoyed young with its opulent fresh fruit.

Jim, I think it will be of interest to compare the `09s later on with `05?
