2014 Tour de France: first Alpine stage

Stage 13: Saint-Etienne to Chamrousse 197.5 kms

Today is the first Alpine stage, which may well shake up the Overall Standings. Much of the stage is relatively flat but with a real sting in the tail starting with the Col de la Palaquit close to Grenoble. This is a 14.1 km Category 1 climb. After this the riders descend into Grenoble before climbing up to Hors Category ascent (18.2 km at an average of 7.3%) to the finish in Chamrousse.

This stage ought to show whether there is anyone left in the race, who can successfully challenge Vincenzo Nibali. If they can't it looks like the 2014 Tour will become a scramble to secure second and third place on the podium.
