My greatest red wine tasting ever!

The four vignerons with some of the bottles
Denis and Thomas Gambier (Domaine des Ouches) and Eric Degaugue and Philippe Boucard (Lamé Delisle Boucard who supplied most of the bottles)

Last night I along with the rest of Les 5 du Vin were treated to an extraordinary tasting of Bourgueil covering three centuries. We started with the 2009 before moving on to 1989 and then descended all the way to 1893 via 1969, 1964, 1961, 1955, 1949, 1948 (Michel Smith's birth year and a real surprise by the good fruit that remained as 48 isn't a celebrated wine vintage), 1947 – red and an extraordinarily fresh dry rosé, 1934, 1933, 1906 and finishing with an 1893. With the exception of a couple of bottles that had quite a mushroomy but not unpleasant nose, all the vintages showed well.

In how many of the world's vineyards could you have a tasting like this!?
