Folie de AC Touraine

2010 Sauvignon Blanc in Touraine

Some evidence here that opting for plain Appellation Touraine or Chenonceaux and removing the Sauvignon from the label will hurt sales of Sauvignon de Touraine in the UK. Enotria is one the UK's largest wine importers and imports the wines from the Clos du Porteau.

Dear Aynard,

Thank you for your e-mail.

Whilst I understand the motivation of trying to differentiate wines from the Chenonceaux commune from the rest of the Touraine appellation, the British consumer expects to see the words Touraine and Sauvignon on the label.  You will remember that a few years ago the word "Sauvignon" was taken off the label, and this had a detrimental effect on sales in the UK.

Taking the word "Touraine" off the label would have a similar effect.

Therefore I suggest you label the wines Sauvignon Touraine Chenonceaux.

Kind regards,

Tim
