Muscadet Cru – Champtoceaux?
The move to establish Muscadet crus communaux is now moving beyond the Sèvre-et-Maine zone to the much smaller Muscadet Coteaux de la Loire to get a Cru Champtoceaux eventually agreed by the INAO.
A few yeas ago, when we spent a week in Ancenis, we visited a Muscadet producer across the river. I believe the appellation was Muscadet Coteaux de Grandlieu, or something like that. His wines were very good. Our gite owner, Andrew Trepass, said that although their Muscadet has won awards, the lowly appellation made it difficult for them to charge any more than 4 euros.

ReplyDeleteHi Bob, If it was across the river from Ancenis it would have been Muscadet Coteaux de la Loire. Grandlieu is to the west of Nantes.
