6th August 2016: Quincy celebrates 80 years as an appellation

Details from Syndicat de Quincy on 02.48.71.36.78.

Rather curiously for a small appellation Quincy was the first vineyard in the Loire to be promoted to appellation contrôlée status on 6th August 1936. Along with neighbouring Reuilly, Quincy went through very difficult times in the 1960s and 70s coming close to disappearing altogether. Fortunately their fortunes started to revive from the 1980s and both are currently thriving appellations.

Quincy makes only white wine from Sauvignon Blanc planted mainly on gravel laid down by the River Cher. There are now 300 hectares in production, which is an increase of 250% on 1985. There are 32 vigneron families. Two million bottles a year are produced with 14% exported.
