There are now just five stages left in the 2016 and only four will count in deciding the overall winner. If Chris Froome's rivals want to stop him winning his third Tour de France they will have to start attacking him unless he has a disastrous day in the Alps. To date the power of the Sky team has nullified and inhibited attacks.
Yesterday Mark Cavendish left the Tour after winning four stages to prepare for the Olympics where he is riding in the Omnium with Bradley Wiggins, so the final Paris sprint will belong to someone else.
Stage 17: Berne to Finhaut-Emosson 184.5 kms
With the stage finishing at the top of the steep hors category Finaut-Emosson this ought to provide Froome's rivals a chance to attack. Equally it may provide Chris an opportunity to put further time into the other GC contenders. Apart from a short descent from the Col de Forclaz the last 34 kilometres are uphill with some very steep sections on the climb up to Finaut-Emosson.
It will be disappointing if there are no changes to the overall classification this evening.
