On Friday after a tasting at the Syndicat des Producteurs de Saumur-Champigny we had a quick look around Saumur-Champigny and Chinon (separate post) before heading home.
Caroline and Antoine Foucault: "We finished on Tuesday. Potential degrees for the reds – 13.3 - 13.4, while the Chenin ranged between 12.8 for the younger vines and 13.5 for the Centenaires. Charly and Nady (Frères Foucault) finished last Friday. However, we only have 12 pickers while they have 42!"
Amélie and Régis Neau:"We have just done a first tri for our Coteau de Saumur, which is coming in at just under 17% potential. We expect the next tri will be richer. The Saumur-Champigny is now coming in at 14% potential. This week we have picked a lot of Cabernet Franc and we expect to finish tomorrow.
Antoine Sanzay: had recently finished and was enjoying lunch.
The forecast is currently good for the next ten days or so – good conditions to finish picking any Cabernet that remains while the Chenin for the sweet wines concentrates.
