Headline in La Nouvelle République today
Following the passing of the deadline at 6pm last night for list of candidates for the 2014 municipal elections to be lodged at the relevant prefecture, the electorial campaign has now started.
This is the first election where lists of candidates for small communes had to be registered in advance with the prefecture. Previously it was possible to add names to the list of candidates even on the day of the vote by writing them in on the ballot paper. There are two stages: firstly candidates have to be certified that they are on the electoral roll of the commune where they are standing and then the list has to be lodged at the prefecture. In Indre et Loire this is Tours.
There were fears that because of the increasingly onerous work and responsibilities involved in being on a Conseil, especially for the Maire, that a number of small communes wouldn't manage to put up a list of candidates. In the Region Centre only one commune has no list – Crouy-sur-Cosson. Across the whole of France 64 communes have no list – one with a population of more than a 1000 and 63 with less than 1000.

The eleven candidates by the lakeside
For Epeigné-les-Bois in 2014 there will be just one list of candidates organised by Christian Percevault, previously the first deputy-mayor. At the last election there were two lists.
The following are on the list of candidates:
M Christian Percevault – Premier adjoint sortant – Retaitée Ingénieur
Mme Christiane Bé – Retraitée Function Territoriale
Mme Amélie Borgniet – Professeur des Ecoles
M. Philippe Chanteloube – Technicien Médical
M. Philippe Gallet – Retraité Directeur Commercial
M Daniel Laumonnier – Retraité de l'Industrie
M Michel Mergot: Maire sortant – Retraité Directeur d'Ecole
M. Jacques-Valentin Moreau – Préparateur en Pharmacie
Mme Maryline Paumard – Auxilaire de Vie
M. Monique Rivard – Retraité de la Poste
M. Pierre Tourlier – Retraité Présidence de la République
Two of the candidates on the list served on the previous Conseil – Christian Percevault and Michel Mergot. This time presumably Christian Percevault will be elected Maire by the Conseil.

There is a public meeting organised for 17th March@La Salle des Fêtes starting at 19.00.
I understand that, although there is one list of candidates there will still be an election. In the first Tour (Sunday 23rd March) any candidate who gets 50% + 1 of the votes cast will have been elected. Then at the second Tour (Sunday 30th March) any remaining candidates will be elected.
The candidates undertake to continue with the following projects:
Restaurer les toitures de l'église
Rendre accessible les bâtiments publics aux personnes handicappées
Réaliser l'étude patrimoniale de notre réseau d'eau potable
Poursuivre les travaux d'amélioration de la sécurité routière
Adapter notre structure éducative à la réforme des rythmes scolaires
(school days are being shorten slightly with classes now on Wednesday morning)
Protéger notre environnement et notre cadre de vie
Agrémenter les conditions de vie des jeunes et des seniors

costly project started by the previous administration
