Trail de Sancerre: Dr Jamie Goode sets himself a stiff challenge

Tweet conversation with Jamie Goode,
Heather Dougherty, Nik Darlington and Chris Skyrme

Jamie Goode: 'This looks fun, a 35 km race in Sancerre'. Not the first time that Jamie has run a distance race: he ran his first marathon last year completing the Médoc Marathon. I hope he looked carefully at the Trail de Sancerre (Trial de Sancerre?) race details before deciding it would be 'fun' – yes it could well be but you will have to be fit! At 35 kilometres is more than seven short of a full marathon – 42.195km but runners will have to climb some 1100 metres (3630 feet).

Sancerre is a very different matter from the relatively flat Médoc. It is the most hilly of the Loire appellations with the possible exception of the Côte Roannaise and the Côtes de Forez.

Les Monts Damnés, above the village of Chavignol, is the first obstacle that the runners face after starting from the Remparts of Sancerre. That climb will put the slight rise between Châteaux Lafite and Cos d'Estournel into perspective.

Châpeau if Jamie successfully completes the Trail de Sancerre, especially if he completes in less than 4 hours 30 minutes!
