Matthieu Coirier, Domaine Coirier
AC Fiefs Vendéens Pissotte
This is the first of several posts on Loire producers present at the French Wine Discoveries tasting at Tobacco Dock on 14.1.2014
The 24-ha Domaine Coirier in Pissotte dates from 1895. The Coirier family is the only individual producer in the Pissotte sub-appellation of the Fiefs Vendéens.
I enjoyed tasting Matthieu's wines, which I don't think I have tasted before. I particularly liked his two very limited production cuvées: 2011 La Petite Groie (80% Chenin and 20% Chardonnay) with 11 months élévage in 400-litre barrels and the 2011 Mélusine, a equal blend of Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon. Matthieu also showed the 2012 versions of these two wines, which have just been bottled. Although he seemed a little disappointed with how these 2012s were showing at the moment, I thought both showed potential and that they just need time to settle down in bottle.
