We have been up in Scotland since the 8th July and in the Highlands since the 9th. The weather has been amazing with a period last week up around 30˚C – virtually too hot to go out cycling in the heat of the day! More Provence than Scotland. The grass is going brown and burnt and the rivers drying up!
Based in Newtonmore we have been out exploring quiet roads and tracks on our mountain bikes. One special ride was a ride up Glen Tromie to the point where it overlooks the Gaick Forest. Although the start of the track at Drumguish is gravel, it does in time become a metalled road. It is a lovely ride up the Glen and very quiet as you climb up almost imperceptibly for much of the way.
Going up Glen Tromie and then through the Gaick Pass is an alternative for an adventurous cyclist or walker to the Drumochter Pass used by the A9 and the railway from Perth to Inverness.
