Proposal to ban imports of red and white blended rosés

Hervé Lalau's considered response to
the proposal to ban imports of blended rosés

My Les 5 du Vin colleague, Hervé Lalau, slates here the attempt to have imports of rosés, made by blending red and white wine, into the EU banned. We had this debate in 2009. It appears that we will again be subjected to this tedious debate over whether blending red and white wines to make rosé is a complete heresy.

The OIV should tell the French rosé producers that such a ban cannot be considered until the practice of blending red and white wine to make a rosé in Champagne is banned. That I suspect would be the last we'd hear of this nonsense.
