2012 Rosé de Loire, Caves coopératives à Saint Cyr en Bourg (above and below)
A couple of 2012 Rosés – Rosé de Loire and Cabernet de Saumur – from the very good Cave Coopérative à Saint Cyr en Bourg sent to me try. Both are well made and attractive. The Rosé de Loire is a blend of Grolleau Noir and Cabernet Franc. It is a little lighter both in colour and weight than the Cabernet. Its light red fruits and clean, fresh finish makes it a fine apéritif but also with shellfish – plâteau fruits de mers.
The more weighty Cabernet de Saumur (100% Cabernet Franc) makes it a more suitable partner with food – a summer lunch outside with a selection of salads, characuterie etc or some grilled fish – sea bass, sea bream, although I not sure how well it would partner sardines or mackerel.
