Visitors to Georgia are welcomed with a small bottle of red wine
'Welcome to the land of 8000 vintages'
Bottle: Birthplace of Wine
The Georgians certainly know how to welcome visitors to their country! As we passed through Pasport Control very early this morning we were each given a small bottle of wine. Even better it is closed with a screwcap, so weary travellers can refresh themselves while waiting for their luggage.
If Scotland and Catalonia do win independence, I hope their politicians will take due note. Alex Salmond could order Scottish Passport Control to hand out a welcome miniature of whisky, while small bottles of Torres Sangre de Toro could greet visitors to Catalonia.
Sadly due to the Loi Evin such a gesture is not possible in France.

It is also an idea that could be adopted with advantage by the USA, although their charming officials might choose to hand over undiluted vinegar....
