2012 Sauvignon Blanc in Pouilly
We spent yesterday afternoon in the vineyards of Pouilly-sur-Loire. Picking really got underway on Monday, although a few producers like Benjamin Dagueneau (Domaine Didier Dagueneau) and Château de Tracy started about a week earlier. Although some large Sancerre estates like Henri Bourgeois also didn't start until Monday, Pouilly overall is a little later than Sancerre this year.
As in Sancerre the grapes are a very clean and yields look to vary between 35hl/ha up to around 60 hl/ha for a parcel of vin de pays.
Bunches of Sauvignon Blanc in Pouilly
Just as in Sancerre, producers in Pouilly should have no complaints in 2012.
More to reports and photos follow.
Hi Jim
ReplyDeleteThink our paths have been crossing - shame not to see you
Also that 60 hh for VdP is unlikely this year - most of these come from the Loir & Cher and yields there are closer to 25 hectos/hectare.... Jean-Christophe Bourgeois was clearly finding that a headache!
Otherwise, we're really relieved - looks like that bit of rain pre-harvest might have saved the day. Not sure how we could cope if yields had been as poor in Sancerre & Pouilly as they are in Muscadet!
Do call in for a beer if you're passing this way.
Hi Charles
ReplyDeleteThe 60 hl/ha referred to an unclassified parcel of vines in the Pouilly area. The yields in Loir et Cher are much lower.
Sorry not to have seen you.
Best wishes
Jim
