At Vitiloire yesterday I discovered a new name for me in Montlouis: Benoît Mérias. Benoît took over Laurent Chatenay's six hectares of vines at the end of last year. Benoît and Laurent worked on the 2011 vintage together and there were three 2011 Mérias wines on show. Les Quarts, Les Maisonnettes from older vines and the demi-sec La Vallée. I particularly liked La Vallée with its lovely balance of fruit and racy acidity.
Benoît trained at Amboise and worked for some two years with Jacky Blot and has also worked in Marcillac.
Benoît Mérias is a name to follow and yet more proof of the dynamism of the Montlouis appellation.

Yes good to see you Saturday, although I don't think I will be rushing back to Le Duplex!. Saumur was OK yesterday with just a little bit of mizzle early on and did enjoy Anne-Charlotte's Chinon. Jim
