Looking across the Layon from Quarts-de-Chaume
Day 3 takes us from Rablay back to Chalonnes, where the Layon meets La Loire. We will pass by Saint-Lambert and along past the Quarts de Chaume, one of the Loire's most famous sweet wine appellations. Our lunchtime stop will be in the pretty village of Saint-Aubin-de-Luigné.

In Rablay, take the D54 towards Beaulieu. On your right hand side, you’ll see an old dolmen covered in moss. This vegetal comes in two varieties: green, somewhat unusual and ... Sterling – ever heard of Sterling moss?
ReplyDeleteIf one then continues towards the Loire River, one will inevitably call at St Aubin and finally reach the “Corniche”. At this point, the trans-Layon stewards will meet you to offer an explanatory folder and some refreshments. These people come in two varieties as well: standard and Jack – ever heard of Jackie steward?
Mind you, my third leg is even worse: if you drive back to Paris over Le Mans, you’ll get a view of twin towers, called “Les tours mancelles”. These buildings also comme in two types, as you’ve guessed by now: bricks and Nigel – ever heard of .... Nigel mancelles.
