Two Touraine Sauvignons from Jean-Marc Villemaine

2009 Touraine Sauvignon Jean-Marc Villemaine

Here are a couple of Touraine Sauvignons from Jean-Marc Villemaine, a producer in Thésée. Let's start with the pale coloured 2009 Vieilles Vignes, which some delicate grassy and gooseberry aromas and has the weight and more muted acidity – very much the characteristics of the 2009 vintage. To drink now or keep for another two or three years.

2010 Le Haut Chesneau, Touraine Sauvignon

I'm afraid this 2010 failed the CRM test – it was dismissed on the grounds of high acidity. Although I'm less sensitive to high acidity as I enjoy crisp austere wines this 2010 is certainly decidedly lean and lemony. With a bit more bottle age it may take on a little more weight. For the moment I would go for the 2009 Vieilles Vignes.
