Ackerman buys Monmousseau
Saumur based Ackerman has continued its expansion by buying the sparkling wine house, Monmousseau which is based in Montrichard. Ackerman are buying from Bernard-Massard, a Luxembourg company. The purchase will expand Ackerman's sparkling wine activities into Touraine. Monmousseau, which used to be part of Champagne Taittinger as did Bouvet-Ladubay.
In 2009 Monmousseau had a turnover of 4.4€ million down from 4.6€ million in 2008. In 2009 Ackerman turned over 46.2€ million. As the Cave des Producteurs de Vouvray in the Vallée Coquette is one of the members of Alliance Loire, an Ackerman shareholder, Ackerman already has a presence in Touraine. However buying Monmousseau will allow them to develop this. According to Rayon-Boissons Ackerman intend to develop the oeontourism potential of Monmousseau. The potential is there as Monmousseau is just on the eatern edge of Montrichard and the site overlooks the attractive River Cher.

Although this takeover can be seen as a further concentration of Loire wine businesses in a few hands, it is also an instance when control has returned to the Loire. Previously control had been moving away from the Loire with Bordeaux based Castel buying Friedrich and Sautejeau-Beauquin and Alsace based Grands Chai buying Vinival and Lacheteau.
From Rayon-Boissons Ackerman rachète la société Monmousseau
'Le mouvement de concentration se poursuit dans le vignoble ligérien. Notamment dans l’univers des vins effervescents. La société Ackerman, qui s’apprête à fêter son bicentenaire l’an prochain, vient d’annoncer le rachat de la maison de Monmousseau au groupe luxembourgeois Bernard-Massard. Cette acquisition permet à Ackerman de s’implanter physiquement dans le vignoble tourangeau et de confirmer son leadership dans le secteur des bulles.'
Is Monmousseau the sparkling wine makers connected to A. Monmousseau of Chateau Gaudrelle of Vouvray, other than through a shared surname? Chris Kissack's Gaudrelle profile mentions a family-inspired need to sell the chateau at Vouvray, is this all related to the sale to Ackerman?
ReplyDeleteJames. The sparkling wine concern in Montrichard did originally belong to the Monmousseau family but they sold it many years ago, although Alexandre's late father Amand continued to run the company for a number of years afterwards.
