2009 Loire vintage – still set fair

Virginia creeper starting to put on its annual show

The forecast for the coming week looks favourable and settled. The wind has moved around to the north with an anticyclone in place. It is noticeably cooler today and more autumnal with maximum temperatures is the mid-teens rather the 20s where it has been for about the last six weeks and the nights threaten to be close to freezing.

Fortunately the dire forecast for last week given out by France Météo on Sunday 4th October turned out to be incorrect with much less rain than forecast.

This week should see the vast majority of the Cabernet Franc in Chinon, Bourgueil, Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil and Saumur picked. Quality looks extremely promising. The cooler weather should check the spread of any incipient rot in the CF that was just starting in a few places towards the end of last week.

As an alternative (or in addition) to Météo France Christophe Daviau has recommended Météociel. It gives you detailed forecasts for all of France's communes.

Bertrand Celce has a detailed report on Noella Morantin and her 2009 vintage made at La Tesnière, Pouillé.
