Chanceaux-près-Loches: park and château

Château

Chanceaux-près-Loches is an enchanting little hamlet in the middle of the woods to the west of Loches. Although well worth a visit at any time, it holds two major festivals in August – Les Peintres à Chanceaux (14th-16th August 2009 from 10.00-19.00) and La Forêt des Livres (30th August 2009 from 10.00-22.00). This year is the 24th edition of Les Peintres and the 14th of La Forêt.

Five writers: Descartes, Montaigne, Alfred de Vigny, Paul Louis Courrier and Balzac

There is a mural (La Fresque des Écrivains) featuring France's most famous writers on the outside wall of the Pavillon des Chasseurs. It was painted by Armand Langlois between 2003 and 2008.
