Credit-scrunch dinner

(7th December 2008)

Last Sunday a dinner to ‘celebrate’ or perhaps mark the current economic woes featuring a menu with suitable dishes. The main dish was loin of pork – ‘you’re for the chop’. I was responsible for the first course – shrimp and save salad with shredded cabbage and king prawns – actually should probably have been prawnbrokers’ salad (la salade du préteur). With this we drank HenriyMarionnet’s 2005 Vinifera Sauvignon Blanc AC Touraine. Made from ungrafted vines planted in 2000, it was quite rich and full reflecting the warm and fine 2005 vintage. It proved to be a good foil to the sweetness of the prawns.
