Oz Clarke & Margaret Rand: Grapes & Wines updated

This is a revised and updated edition of Margaret and Oz’s book that was first published in 2001. Published by Pavillion Books, costing £14.99 for 320 pages. This is currently the best study in English of grape varieties that I know, although, if the Loire is any guide, I’m not sure that the growers’ recommendations have been revised. In the section on Chenin, Gaston Pavy of Azay-le-Rideau is listed as a best producer. I think Pavy has stopped making wine – can anyone confirm this please? The late René Renou is also listed – equally I’m not sure what has happened to René’s vineyards in Bonnezeaux – again any information would be much appreciated.

Dear Jim,
Perhaps the people at 3dwines might be able to a help you tracking down Gaston Pavy. I believe he once took part in their project 'rent a row' (although he's no longer listed on their site).

Thanks Georges. I suspect he must have given up as I can't find any Pavy in the telephone directory for Azay. The last wine listed on wine-searcher is Pavy's 1996.
