Before they became popular we used flat weave towels. Loop weave towels were (yes, you've guessed!) first made in Turkey, in Bursa to be exact, and introduced to the UK by Henry Christie in the mid 1800s. The luxuriousness of the loop pile proved very popular and, believe it or not, Christie towels are still well known!
